Shannon Bridgmon, PhD

Shannon L. Bridgmon, PhD, is an academic with a history of administrative experience in local
government and nonprofit administration. Dr. Bridgmon earned her doctorate in Political Science, as
well as a Master of Public Administration from the University of Alabama. Specializing in southern
politics, she is a recognized expert on political parties and culture in Alabama. From 2008-2012, she
served on faculty at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and from 2012-2020 was Associate Professor
of Political Science at Northeastern State University in Oklahoma, where she was routinely recognized
for teaching excellence.
Prior to her academic career, Dr. Bridgmon worked in various positions in local government and
nonprofit organizations in Virginia and Alabama from 2001-2007. These administrative experiences
helped inform and inspire her commitment to integrate service-learning experiences and education into
the classroom.
Dr. Bridgmon is also actively involved in her community and serves on the local Board of Education. She
is married to Dr. Phillip Bridgmon and resides in Warrensburg, MO. They have three school-aged sons,
Thomas, Will Owen, and Oliver.
